NIKOLAI PLAVSKI
|
Nikolai was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. "At a very early age, I used to watch my grandfather work for many hours in his artist studio." At ages six and seven, Nikolai was enrolled in a special school for gifted and talented artists drawing under the leadership of his grandfather, Nikolai Alexanderovich Plavski. Nikoolai attended the BV Loganson School of Art, The Academy of Arts, Leningrad, USSR (the country's top school). He studied with such distinguished faculty as Mikhail Anicushin (foremost Soviet sculptor), Illya Moesayenko (internationally recognized as one of the USSR's top painters), Boris Kochno (Pro Rector of the Repin Art Institute. and Zhook (a premier Soviet architect.)
Nikolai has recently relocated to Nashville, having been in New York the last 8 years. He works most in the medium of watercolor, pencil and ink. Because of his strong classical and architectural training you will notice that he generally gives great attention to detail. He wants to give full expression to his creative passion and contributes something to the heart and soul of man. His grandfather would be pleased. |

M. L. ROBINSON
OUT OF THE DARKNESS
|
About four years ago, I received a delicious piece of art in the mail. It was simply an invitation to Nashville's Italian Street Festival, so beautiful I saved it for inspiration. As I roamed the grounds of the festival that year, I looked up to see a full-sized canvas rendition of my miniature find. Rushing toward it, I asked the girl in the booth if she knew who did it. Mary Leigh Robinson beamed, "I did."
We remained in touch, and Arrington's Mary Leigh was one of Durrett's first artists. Her flute painting and the cards made from it are favorites of music lovers; the poem on the card is just the thing for lovers of every description. Mary Leigh began to paint during a period of blindness resulting from diabetes. She started with abstracts, telling her mother which color she wanted next, and allowing her to fill her brush and point her in the right direction. As eyesight returned, Mary Leigh completed the abstracts, adding detail and whimsical titles. |
